The community of Arrazola, located in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, has gained international acclaim as the birthplace of a unique, whimsical style of woodcarving. Since their rise to popularity during the late 1980s, Oaxacan woodcarvings have achieved international fame and are often prized as collector pieces.

With almost 20 years of carving experience, Catarino Carrillo is considered a pioneer among the Oaxacan woodcarvers. Although his specialties include giraffes, gazelles, foxes, dogs, and tigers, his artistic eye and natural carving ability allow him to create a wide range of style and designs.
